How to use the database ?

The software is built around a database that manages a quick access to the DICOM datasets Each DICOM studies is stored on the hard disk in a dedicated directory. the path to each DICOM studies is saved in a sqlite database.

On the first start, an empty database will be automatically generated in the default location. The initial appearance of the database is shown in the following figure.

Be aware that the software will extract private data from the DICOM files. The storage of such data is regulated by law. The software user must obtain the necessary permits according to the law of the country in which it resides. It is the responsibility of the user of the software.

Name, birthdate, imaging modality, institution name of the owner of the DICOM images are automatically displayed in the database. The last column (“Notes”) is empty and available for personal notes (Press F2 to edit the cell).

The software provides a tool to anonymize the DICOM images. It is strongly recommended to use this tool (see “How to anonymize a DICOM dataset).

Access to DICOM images is available on double-click.

3D images datasets are written with italic light blue fonts (see below).

Typically, standard DICOM files are associated with a file named DICOMDIR in its root directory. The DICOMDIR file store paths to DICOM files on the media. The DICOMDIR is a DICOM Object holding a sequence of nodes, each having a type like PATIENT, STUDY, SERIES or IMAGE. Sometimes nodes are incomplete or corrupted. This function restores some of the missing attributes according to the DICOM standard.
